Ron Duprat, best known for competing on season 6 of Bravo TV’s Top Chef, will give healthy cooking demonstrations at the Haitian American Nursing Organization & Allied of Palm Beach’s Multicultural Educational Health Fair.

The chef, from Mare Rouge, Haiti will stop at the health fair on his way from the MidAtlantic Wine and Food Festival on his way home to the U.S. Virgin Islands, he said.

“I really like to give back, and when they asked me to participate I had to say yes,” Duprat said. “I will be showing people how to make healthy but flavorful dishes.”

The health fair is scheduled for Saturday, May 24 at Glades Community Central High School, Belle Glade. Organizers anticipate more than 1,000 health fair visitors, and are making a call to medical and other healthcare professionals to volunteer.

“On behalf of HANOA, I am inviting doctors, nurses, psychologists, nutritionists and other healthcare professionals to volunteer a few hours to share their expertise with people and give back to a community in need,” said HANOA vice president and driver of the event, Louise Lorraine Voltaire, a registered nurse and vice president of the nursing organization.

The free, day-long event will provide educational information about nutrition, diet and exercise, childhood obesity, HIV/AIDS, mental health and common chronic illnesses such as diabetes, heart disease, respiratory disorders, depression, dementia and breast cancer. Medical professionals also will offer complimentary health screenings for blood pressure, blood sugar, obesity and breast cancer.
