Mindless eating and how to prevent it

The first question that occurs when a person hears the term 'mindless eating' is, What is mindless eating? 

well, when a person is not aware of what or how much food he or she is consuming, it can be called mindless eating.

What are the bad effects of mindless eating?

You gain unhealthy and unnecessary weight. 

You lose fitness.

You become stiff and dull.

You gain cardiac and health issues.

You are losing money and wasting food.

You are disrespecting food and the efforts made it.

 It is assured that Mindless eating is anything but a good thing for a human being. So we must prevent it. 

For preventing Mindless eating we must know the reasons behind it.

Experts believe five main reasons are contributing to this dangerous habit.


  1. Eating when you are not hungry

  2. Eating with distractions such as televisions, the internet, or conversation.

  3. lack of awareness about how much you are eating.

  4. Eating out of emotions such as being bored or sad or angry when you didn't need to eat a particular food.

  5. Seduced by artificial factors such as good looks at the food when you didn't need it.



My suggestion for stopping such behavior are - 

take time when you are eating cause it takes our body sometimes 20 minutes to realize that we are full. 

so eating slowly can help you understand your true limit and not crossing it.

Think about what it takes for the food to come all of this way to your plate from a small seed or an egg to a tasty recipe. Think about how much effort was needed for the food to be the food you are eating.

Respect the efforts and respect the food. That way you will now waste or eat more than you need and you will enjoy the food slowly and peacefully.

Improve the environment you are eating in.

Candlelight dinners are not only meant to be romantic, think about the last candlelight dinner you have been in and try to remember how you were eating and how satisfied you were with the food without eating too much.

The environment plays a pretty big role in your eating habit, so eating in a peaceful, hygienic healthy, and calm environment matters when you want to prevent mindless eating.


Ask yourself questions when you are eating. Am I only because I am bored?

Do I need to eat now?

sometimes the answer might negative and you better stop.


When you are eating, get rid of the distractions.

get rid of the television in the dining room and don't eat while using the internet or watching something.


Try to measure and keep track of what and how much you are eating.

It will help you keep a check on unnecessary food.


And try to only eat when you are hungry. You can use an imaginary hunger scale. Use this scale to measure your hunger level and only eat when you pass a certain level.

Following these suggestions will assure that you can prevent mindless eating once and for all.
